The Strand East Works are part of a major redevelopment of Hunts Island in Stratford, creating a new self-contained community with residential and amenity spaces. This phase of the project involved the creation of essential infrastructure, including roads, drainage, and services, to support future development on the site.

Gobion Construction played a crucial role in the project by executing a comprehensive range of civil engineering works, including earthworks, drainage, and infrastructure installation.

  • Extensive earthworks, including reduced level excavation across the site with excavated materials remediated and redistributed on site.

  • Installation of storm and foul drainage systems, including deep drainage (up to 6m), attenuation tanks, petrol interceptors, and flood balancing tanks, connecting to the Thames Water Sewer System.

  • Installation of future-proof services for the site, including communications, electrical, and district heating systems, within dedicated verges.

  • Construction of earth retaining structures to support the basement levels of future buildings.

  • Construction of substructures for new build plots, including pile caps and ground floor slabs.

Project Challenges

Working on a greenfield site, the project required careful site preparation, including ground remediation and stabilisation, to create a suitable foundation for future development.

Coordinating with multiple stakeholders, the project involved coordination with various stakeholders, including developers, utilities companies, and local authorities.

Meeting stringent environmental and sustainability requirements, the project required careful consideration of environmental impacts and the implementation of sustainable construction practices.
